DHS Department of Choral Arts
The Duluth choirs have a long tradition of excellence in the state of Georgia and abroad. They have performed throughout metropolitan Atlanta, New York City, New York; Nashville, Tennessee; Disney World, Orlando, Florida; and The Grand Bahama Islands as well as six international concert tours throughout Europe. Each year the choirs participate in the Georgia Music Educator’s Association State Large Group Performance Evaluation where they consistently receive the top ratings of “Superior”. Duluth is also very well represented in the GMEA All-State Choirs, Honors Choruses and GHSA Music Literary events yearly.

Folders/Music

Students are asked to bring a white or light color 1” 3-ring binder at the beginning of the year. The binder must be light enough in color to write your name and folder number on the binder OR it must have a clear plastic sleeve on the outside so you can insert a name/number label inside. Please do not bring any binder other than the 1" size, because they will not fit properly in the designed slots. These folders will be given a number and will be stored in the choral folio cabinets in the corresponding numbered slots. Folders are used to hold music that we are working on and must contain loose leaf paper and a pencil to write daily rhythms and “sponge” activities on. Students will be required to make notes in their music with a pencil daily. If a student loses his/her folder, they will be asked to pay a minimum of $10 to replace the music lost. Damaged music may also be subject to replacement costs. Music must be marked with pencil only and markings should be erased before turning the music in. It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with folders/music. Students are welcomed to take folders home as long as they sign it out and bring it back daily. A student that fails to bring their folder to class will be subject to a Demerit point penalty for not being prepared for class. The suggested method is to leave your folder in the chorus folio cabinet and make sure you always put it in the right spot every day. If another folder is found in your slot, bring it to the Director to correct the problem. Do not just take the other folder and place it in a random spot.
