DHS Department of Choral Arts
The Duluth choirs have a long tradition of excellence in the state of Georgia and abroad. They have performed throughout metropolitan Atlanta, New York City, New York; Nashville, Tennessee; Disney World, Orlando, Florida; and The Grand Bahama Islands as well as six international concert tours throughout Europe. Each year the choirs participate in the Georgia Music Educator’s Association State Large Group Performance Evaluation where they consistently receive the top ratings of “Superior”. Duluth is also very well represented in the GMEA All-State Choirs, Honors Choruses and GHSA Music Literary events yearly.

Care of the Rehearsal Room

Office/Practice or Storage rooms: Students are not allowed in the choral office or Practice rooms or storage rooms with out Mr. Smith’s permission.

NO FOOD OR DRINKS: are permitted in the chorus room. This does not ONLY mean you cannot eat in the chorus room, it means that you cannot have it in the room at all! In the past, Styrofoam cups of soda have been spilled on the carpet and bookcases because it was set on top of a bookcase. Water in a bottle with a top is acceptable during rehearsals. Chewing gum must be thrown away before rehearsal starts.

Risers: Please leave all books and backpacks in the assigned area. They are not to be kept at your seat.

Chairs: Do not lean your chair back on two legs or move the chairs from their assigned position.

Mornings: Only currently enrolled choral members are welcome to hang out in the chorus room before or after school. However, we encourage you to make the chorus room your home at school. Come on in and meet students from other classes or rehearse with an ensemble. Mr. Smith is very busy in the mornings in his office and will not be available for questions until class begins.

Props/Costumes/Chorus Property: are completely off limits to students without Mr. Smith’s permission. Anyone playing with these items will lose 5-10 merit points.

Books/personal belongings: No books or personal belongings should be left in the chorus room. All books and personal property remaining beyond the end of the school day will be removed. Periodically, they will be taken to lost and found or Goodwill.
